The Walt Disney World Resort is filled with amazing photo opportunities. But no family vacation photo scrapbook would be complete without some beautiful shots of some iconic spots in the parks. These are the ten photographs you won’t want to miss.
- Cinderella Castle. It doesn’t matter what angle you take it from, but Cinderella Castle is definitely a photo you can’t miss. If you want a straight shot from Main Street USA, I suggest you head into The Magic Kingdom as early as possible. My favorite angle to photograph the castle, though, is from the entrance to Liberty Square. You can capture beautiful reflections in the water.
- Spaceship Earth. In Epcot, you can’t miss Spaceship Earth. You know, that giant golf ball thing. (It’s actually a geodesic sphere) My favorite time to photograph Spaceship Earth is at night, lit with purples. It just captures the magic of the parks perfectly.
- Tree of Life. Yes, there is a trend here. The Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the icon of the park. Again, with such a large feature, there are so many angles to take pictures from, but my favorite is straight in front of it as you come in from the park entrance.
- Monorail in Epcot. There are several spots to snap an amazing photo of the monorail as it comes through Epcot. One is in the entrance plaza as it crosses in front of Spaceship Earth. Another, often missed shot, is from the bridge down to the World Showcase. Especially during the Flower and Garden Expo, the flowers in the background are just perfect.
- Haunted Mansion. While I love the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland, the Haunted Mansion in The Magic Kingdom can’t be beat for amazing photo ops. A great shot can be taken from Tom Sawyer’s Island or the Liberty Bell Steamboat!
- Rapunzel’s Tower. This little gem of an area was a new discovery for me on my last trip. While you are relaxing in the charging area, you should definitely take some pictures from various angles.
-
Expedition Everest. I love shooting the Disney “Mountain Ranges” and Expedition Everest has some spectacular views. I have taken and seen some very original angles of this mountain. Obviously, the straight on close-up photo can be amazing, especially if you can time it just right as the train comes down the drop. My other favorite is from the bridge heading into Africa. From there you can have an amazing shot with the river and the mountain in the distance.
- Splash Mountain. Who doesn’t love a shot of Splash Mountain? Timing is everything on this shot, my favorites are those final seconds before a log drops or the spray of water as it hit the bottom of the hill.
- Grauman’s Chinese. Since the Sorcerer’s Hat is gone, the next best picture at Hollywood Studios has to be the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. It definitely captures the “Hollywood” feel of the park.
- Tower of Terror. Some of my favorite photos to play around with are photos taken of the Hollywood Tower Hotel rising up from behind the trees. Take the shot from Sunset Boulevard, in black and white, or throw a sepia filter on your photo and it is significantly creepier! (This tip works well on the Haunted Mansion as well!)
