Away We Go into 2017

We are just a little more than one week before the first race of the year! Even though I am terribly undertrained, I am starting to get excited about running the Rock n Roll Half again. Part of the reason, I think, is because I feel so much stronger than I have in the past! Cross training (even I haven’t done a good job at doing that regularly) seems to be paying off! This week I will be being very careful to not overdo it since the last thing I want to do is hurt myself now – or even just be too sore to enjoy the race.

It’s amazing to see the progress on my 2017 Goals as well, even when we are not even a week into the year! My race calendar is filling up, so much that I am actually having a difficult time choosing a few! But for now, it looks like February will be the FroYo 5K with the family again. Lil WO and I had so much fun last year, plus I wonder if he can place this year – he came in 2nd in his age group, but 4th in the larger group they give awards for… so he JUST missed out.

March will be a 10K – The Race to Fight Childhood Cancer. I personally have renamed the race the 10K F*ck Cancer Run. I will be running in honor of The VanSlyke Family and Atticus. It is a long story, and I haven’t even told them I will be doing this. You can also donate HERE to help me raise more money for this amazing cause. I never want to see a family lose another child to cancer if it possible!

Dropping down to the 5K distance on April; running for another cause – CASA. It may mean missing one of WO’s Triathlons, but it’s a cause near to another friend, and I am excited to support and run with her! Plus – a Super Hero run means COSTUMES!!!!

May is looking be a 10K – Steps for Vets – again. Obviously, once we are getting into May, the weather in Phoenix can get pretty iffy for runs. I am pretty torn, because I found a Women’s Triathlon as well, geared for Beginners (whew) I have been wanting to challenge myself – this could be it. I mean as long as I don’t drown…

See what I was talking about? Just like that (I’m snapping my fingers – realizing you can’t really see it) the 1st half of 2017 is full! Summer is going to be a challenge to find races that are local I have a feeling… but the research will continue. I am excited to progress through this year, though! Fingers crossed for some PRs!!!
