Life really got in the way of Week 4. For both cross training and running. I am going to try to stop beating myself up over the missed cross training. While I know it will ultimately help my times, it is not as crucial as my milage with the race coming up. I am looking more into getting a bit more serious on training – but I don’t know if I can do it on my own.
Even with missing cross training, and only logging 1 mile Thursday (instead of the 5 miles that was on the schedule) I feel like it was a good week. I ended my 7 mile long run today feeling strong, like I could have easily kept going. I wasn’t at my target race pace, but thanks to a couple of red lights, my 1st two miles were averaging in 13 minute mile range. So, to finish at an average pace of 12:15 I ran the last 3 miles at 11:15. I knew I could do short intervals with that type of pace, but never 3 miles straight. It gives me a lot of hope, since I will lose some pacing due to standing in lines for photos with characters at Tink.
Looking ahead to next week’s training; it looks pretty similar.
My weekday runs will never get over 5 miles. So Tuesday will be “Tempo Tuesdays” whether I do intervals, tempo runs, or elevation work. Mileage keeps heading up, 8 miles is on the calendar for my long run. My goal is to bring that average pace closer to the 12 minute mark.
I think the hardest thing lately has been not giving up on myself. It is *hard* to figure out how to fit in more serious training into my schedule. I am seriously toying with the idea of joining a gym, at that point maybe the cost will push me to show up (having someone yelling at me to work harder might definitely help as wel
