Oh Captain, My Captain

My mind is still in a tailspin.

Robin Williams is gone. And this is a first for me. I have been sad when the world loses a great talent. But losing Robin Williams has been an unexpected gut check for me. Robin Williams has always held a special place in my heart. I grew up watching Mork from on Mork and Mindy, as well as the times he showed up on Happy Days. I binged on stand-up through the Comic Relief series.

18459-6360His movies always seemed to be some of my favorites. Who can forget Good Morning Vietnam? Robin made me believe that within an over scheduled, workaholic lawyer; Peter Pan still lived. But when he tried his hand at dramas… it was amazing. The Fisher King is still one of my all-time favorite movies, one that I am often amazed people have not seen (or heard of!)
And before that, Dead Poets Society touched a place in my heart, and spoke to me. To the point that I (and an entire class of mine) had our own “Oh Captain, My Captain” moment in class (yes including standing on our desks…) Depression sucks. I hate to know that probably what strongly contributed to Robin’s genius was what he finally succumbed to.

robinwilliamsThe world lost a brilliant actor, hilarious comedian, and a great man. I will miss the twinkle in those bright blue eyes, and the way they crinkled at the edges when he smiled and laughed. From watching him, and the crush I had on him, I knew that I wanted to spend my life with a man who would make me laugh, and who had a smile that would light up a room. I also knew I had found that man one day when WO and I were dating. I looked at him one day, while he was cracking me up with some sort of antic, and noticed that the corners of his eyes crinkled in just the same way when he was laughing and enjoying himself.

Well, Let’s see, John W. Gacy rings a bell..I think that’s enough ammo right there. I do like some clonws, depending on their costuming. But the ones you would consider traditional, big red nose, bald head or big fluffy red afro, big drawn on surprizey eyebrows.. I am not really fond of them either. So..Have you perchace seen the movie it ? prolly not..jus checkin. ::grin::
