It All Starts Tomorrow

Starting tomorrow, my eyes are glued to the finish line that I will be crossing on Sunday, May 10th. That is when I will be running my 3rd Half Marathon, the 2015 TinkerBell Half with runDisney.

After a not so great training program for the Avenger’s Half Marathon, I am aiming for a new PR. So I know I need to get some serious training in. One of the problems is that I haven’t found a training program that will work well with my schedule, so for this race, I am trying it on my own again. I have 2 other races AFTER the Tink to aim for my 2015 goal of a sub 2 hour 30 minute Half Marathon. So I will be counting on you to hold be accountable for my training.

I have added in some low-impact, strength training that will hopefully also help with some of the issues I have run into. I never thought I would say this, but I am so excited that we got the Xbox One! I have found several great workout programs, and I think I have settled on the Pilates program. We’ll see how it works with my run schedule. I tried a more “bootcamp” style workout, arms and abs were fine, but once I added legs… it wasn’t good. I think the pilates workout will help strengthen my core and upper body, as well as help with the lower body strength that I don’t get from the runs.

Of course, diet will also play a part of all this, but I don’t have a plan in place. I am reading a couple of books on running nutrition, but haven’t gotten far enough to make a change in our menus yet. For now, my challenge will be to up the amount of protein in my diet. But you will be the first to know when I have a goal for my nutrition!

Feel free to track my progress on Twitter and Facebook. I will be posting each run through the Nike Run app (my preferred app at the moment, since I can track mileage on my shoes) and sharing on BOTH platforms. I will also have a weekly training re-cap right here, which will also be the time I share the upcoming week’s schedule.
