So, this week was a disaster. I admit it wasn’t a total waste – I got a lot of core and leg work done, but as far as mileage goes… forget about it. After my disastrous long run last week, I was sore and feeling quite a bit discouraged. In my reading, I came across an article on the importance of recovery weeks and quickly realized I hadn’t built any recovery into my training plan. So after a couple of tough days, I decided this needed to be my recovery week. I admit a migraine on Thursday that turned into a stomach bug on Friday helped firm up those plans. I took a few days off (of everything) and then did a very easy (that honestly didn’t feel so easy) 6 mile run this morning. I am hoping that listening to my body this week will help set me up to be able to really have a good couple of weeks before it is taper time before the race.
So, what does next week bring? That is a good question. It is going to be a busy week just based on kid activities. We have lots of dance, a cheer banquet and parent meeting. But I will get my workouts in, after all… we are coming down to the wire.
A lot of this will be played by ear since really… I am not in the mood to risk an injury at this point. We are just too close, and I just can’t bare to think about having to either miss this race or having to walk it. We’ll see what happens. I want to push for two more weeks – both with speed work and long runs, then start a nice taper. I would love to hit my big goal. A 12 minute average pace would put me at finishing just over 2:30 – and that would be huge!
