Top 5 Thrill Rides in the Walt Disney World Resort

5 thrill rides at Disney World, Florida

You might think a Top 5 Thrill Rides in Walt Disney World Resort would simply be a repeat of the The Top 5 Thrill Rides at the Disneyland Resort. You would be wrong…. Obviously there are some differences due to the differences in rides in the resorts. As a matter of fact, there is only one ride that appears on both lists!

#5. Mission: SPACE (Epcot). I don’t even know how to explain this ride, but let me just say when I got off I was shaking! I can only imagine it is a very good representation of a space trip, including the feeling of g-forces! **Pro tip/warning: If you are claustrophobic this is not the ride for you. They offer two levels of this experience so if you aren’t sure about it, try the Green level. (it also typically has a faster wait time)

Tower of Terror

#4. Tower of Terror (Hollywood Studios). I know that some people were surprised that Tower of Terror did not make my list for my Top 5 Thrill Rides in Disneyland Resort. Honestly, it comes down to story. In Hollywood Studios, the story line once you enter your elevator completely transforms this version to one of my favorites!

#3. Space Mountain (Magic Kingdom). The only ride to make both my Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort lists. Again, the ride is not identical to the Disneyland version, and I tend to enjoy the Florida version a tiny bit better. It could be because I have memorized the track to the Disneyland version. (I have been known to call out the turns about 1 second before we hit them, and then freaking everyone out by throwing out a “loop” as we start going down the dip)

Expedition Everest

#2. Expedition Everest (Animal Kingdom). This very easily could have tied as my number 1 thrill ride in the Walt Disney World Resort. Head up Mt. Everest in a weather-beaten train, until… well, things go wrong. You rocket down the track backwards – yes backwards – until you have an encounter with the legendary Yeti. From there, the ride just gets better, including a 80 foot plummet to the base of the Mountain. **Pro-tip – head to this first thing in the morning, typically you can catch a nice short queue!

#1. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (Hollywood Studios). Did I mention I love roller coasters? You really can’t go wrong with a roller coaster, in the dark, with Aerosmith blazing in your ears. Another crazy launch… no slow, chain pull up this first hill, you take off at a quick 60 miles per hour! You race through inversions and corkscrews in the dark, with iconic Hollywood landmarks lit up at just the right times.

So, did your top thrill ride make my list? If not be sure to share it in the comments below!
