Redneck Run

April’s race is in the books! I’m excited that I have been able to keep up with my goal of 1 race a month, and even more excited that I pushed and did more longer distances than just 5k.

April’s race was the Redneck Run. I had opted for the 10K, and I am glad I did. It ended up being a great morning for a run! I did like that it was the same course of as the 5K, we just did two loops. In true Lisa fashion, I went out faster than I anticipated… but felt really good. That was when I realized that I just might be able to finish with an average pace of 11 minutes per mile. It would be a big step towards reaching my half marathon goal of breaking 2:30!

PR! (with the pups who came to cheer me on!)

The course was great, we basically circled the Westgate Entertainment District and the University of Phoenix Stadium. Pretty flat, except for a small dip when we dropped into a greenbelt area. Once I knew I had a chance of that 11 minute mile pace, I really tried to hold myself back and not push too hard in the first loop.

In the middle of the 2nd loop, Siri decided that I had asked her something… and had to let me know the she “…didn’t quite get that, Lisa” No big, except for that fact that my Runkeeper app never started my verbal cues again to let me track where I was as far as pacing went.

I ended up finishing with a new 10K PR of 1:13. That put my pace at 11:45 minutes per mile. I was just a little frustrated, but it is what it is… I’ll get there.

I will conquer the swim!

So now my focus is 100% on my May race. Ok, that isn’t completely true… it’s about 98% on my May race, and 2% on my June race. May is the Mom’s Tri. I am still slightly freaked about the swim. Which is why I am so focused on it. But I can’t forget that the end of June I am running a half, so I do have to work on building my distance up again!
