5 Tips for Planning your 1st runDisney Race

Planning on participating in a runDisney Race? You will have the time of your life. I am a self-proclaimed runDisney addict. I love the experience of this race series. After running 3 of them; I thought I would share some basic tips I have learned.

  • Run your own race. Do you like running in costumes? Great go all out! Are costumes not your thing? That’s GREAT, wear what you are comfortable in. Do you do run/walk intervals or do you run the whole thing? Do you see where I am going? runDisney runners are GREAT people and aren’t going to judge you.
  • Get to the Expo early – unfortunately runDisney race merchandise is in high demand. Try to get to the expo on the first day, skip picking up your bib and go straight to official merchandise if there is an item you don’t want to miss out on.
  • Plan your pictures. One of the best things about running a runDisney race is the opportunity to take some real fun pictures throughout the parks! Think about the pictures you can’t live without and make sure you take them, but don’t feel like you have to stand in line for every single one. I pass on the characters I know I can go find in the parks after the race!
  • Plan on heading to the parks after you run. You will be able to do it! And it is so much fun; characters, cast members and perfect strangers will comment and congratulate you on your achievement!
  • You CAN do this! Yes, runDisney has a time limit – and you’ll hear stories of being “swept” by the “Balloon Ladies” But you can do this. Don’t spend your time worrying about it – go out and enjoy the experience.

That last tip is the most important. If you have put in the time and miles, you will be fine. This year before TinkerBell Half Marathon, I saw many people doubting themselves. They were so worried they didn’t really enjoy the Expo or the Parks the way they could have! And trust me, if you are struggling in the race, those amazing runDisney fanatics will see you and help you across that finish line!
