So, I met with my Dr. to finally go over my MRI. 2 ½ weeks after having it. I guess that is one of the downsides of picking a HUGE conglomerate orthopedic group.
Anyway, drum roll please……. My hip is “stressed” Yep. That was the diagnosis he could give me. And the fact I should rest it for 2 weeks, since that is how long it typically takes for a “stressed” area to heal. Good news for me, since the MRI was two weeks old. I am under the impression that the “stressed” area is the healing of a stress fracture… even though he never could see that fracture.
But good news – I do have the go ahead to start running again. I have to take baby steps, short and easy runs only for awhile. So that definitely throws a wrench in the Rock n Roll weekend plans. I think I am still going to do the races…. Walking. The 5K I might be able to run/walk intervals… but the Half will definitely have to be walked. So much for getting a new Proof of Time for the Pixie Dust Challenge. I’ll have to submit last years’ time – which is still an improvement over my last POT, I am just hoping it is enough for another corral bump.
In addition to baby steps in the running, I am incorporating a ton of hip and glute strengthening workouts into my routine. I can afford a trainer at the moment (Hi – trainers out there – if you would like to train me, I would love to hear it and I would be a GREAT ambassador for you!) I am hoping strengthening my glutes will help reduce some of the stress. I am also considering going back to Dyad 8’s. The only thing REALLY different about my training was more speed work and a different shoe. Obviously, speed work put a lot more stress on my body, and could have been the culprit alone, so I’m gonna think about it and rotate my shoes to see if I notice a difference.
I know myself, and it is going to be very hard to keep taking these baby steps. I just have to trust my gut and listen to my body. If you have ever had to come back from an injury like this; what are your tips to come back stronger than ever?
