Buh-Bye 2016 – Bring it ON 2017!

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am ready for 2016 to be over. Too many celebrity deaths, too many stupid decisions made by irresponsible people, bad things happening to good people, and so on. I am NOT ignoring the fact that 2016 had some shining moments as well – GOOD laws were passed (in some places), my oldest graduated High School, I got a GREAT new job, which got me out of a job that was not so slowly killing me…

But 2016 sucked my willpower and mojo right out of me. I decided to really look at what I wanted to accomplish in 2017, outside of work and the typical “get healthy” type of goals. My next BIG milestone is coming in January 2018 when I tackle my first full marathon… but I admit I have been a little worried, since I could barely scrape together the motivation to train for the race I am running (ok probably walking because I didn’t scrape up THAT much motivation) There is a long 12 months between the next (and currently only) race on my calendar and the Marathon. I have to do something!

So – meet my 2017 Life Goal. I will run at least one race every month in 2017*. *health permitting

I’m not crazy. I am NOT running a Half Marathon every month. But I will run an “Official” race (no virtuals) from 5K to Half Marathon Distance.

January is covered, obviously, by the AZ Rock n Roll Half Marathon. So I am looking for local races to fill the remainder of my calendar. I have a “Bucket List” race penciled in for November, since I would LOVE to run the Las Vegas RnR. I am toying with the idea of a 3rd Half Marathon distance in June, but that is going to require travel more than likely and I am not sure how that fits into the budget yet.

So, looking at my top 3 choices of Half Marathons in June we have:

San Diego Rock n Roll
Diva’s Half San Francisco
Beach Babes Half Long Beach

I am so torn. The “Adult” voice in my head tells me Diva’s is out – it would require a flight to get there, plus hotel and probably rental car. Both San Diego and Long Beach are driving distance – but both would require hotels. Long Beach would probably be by far the cheapest, but at the bottom of my list!

What would you do?
